Luminescence

Luminescence is an inclusive dance triptych created in collaboration with the Saint Jean de Dieu Foundation and the MAS Les Romans in France.

The stage work is an original 50-minute choreography featuring 18 people with limited mobility and 18 non-dancer medico-social professionals. Its creative process unfolds over the course of one year, during four intensive creation periods.

The Luminescence dance-film is currently in production and will have its premiere in December 2024. The film will shine a light on people often kept in the shadows—on their way of “being” and on how their authenticity radiates toward others through dance.

Cultural mediation workshops are also offered to both the residents and the medico-social staff: “Caring for those who care.

The Luminescence production is a danced ode to our ecosystem where every difference is essential and where everyone, in their own way, contributes to the Cycle of Life.

Through an ecosystem metaphor, diversity is approached through the lens of complementarity rather than “disability”. Artistic director Emmanuelle Martin highlights the ‘authentic beauty’ that characterizes these people: the spontaneity of truth! In the film as in the choreographic work, Emmanuelle anchors her starting point in the professional/resident relationship.

This triptych aims to standardize but also to confront the prejudices linked to functional diversity.

Emmanuelle seeks to demystify and celebrate ‘difference’ and affirm that art resides everywhere and is accessible to all.
